The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has elected Engr. Leye Kupoluyi as its 44th President and Chairman of Council, succeeding Gabriel Idahosa after the completion of his tenure.
Kupoluyi, an accomplished engineer and former Deputy President of the Chamber, was confirmed in office during the LCCI’s 137th Annual General Meeting on Thursday at Commerce House, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Dr. Chinyere Almona, LCCI Director-General, described Kupoluyi as “a distinguished professional with an outstanding record of leadership and service in engineering, trade promotion, and industry development,” adding that his leadership would strengthen the Chamber’s advocacy and business support initiatives.
Kupoluyi, who has more than 40 years of experience, began his career at the Federal Ministry of Communications in 1979. He later served in senior positions at Honeywell Enterprises Ltd. and Witt & Busch Ltd. before founding Universal Power Systems Nigeria Limited in 1995, where he is currently Managing Director and CEO.
A Chartered Engineer in the United Kingdom with an MBA in Technology Management from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Kupoluyi has also completed a Senior Management Course at the University of Manchester. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants, a member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (UK), and actively involved in the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture.
Within the LCCI, Kupoluyi has held several key positions, including Chairman of the Science & Engineering Group (2015–2017), Chairman of the Trade Promotion Board (2021–2023), and Deputy President (2023–2025). His tenure in the Trade Promotion Board saw successful initiatives such as the Tech Hub Project and the 2022 free-entry Lagos International Trade Fair, boosting participation and innovation.
The Chamber also highlighted Kupoluyi’s community service and recognised awards, including the ECOWAS International Gold Award, the Rotary International Entrepreneurship Service Award, and the Gold Award for Excellence in Business Practice.
Kupoluyi’s election is expected to advance the LCCI’s mission of promoting trade, industry, and investment in Nigeria, while enhancing its role as a leading advocate for sound business policies and sustainable economic growth.
