A playful remark attributed to the Sultan of Sokoto Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has become the highlight of Governor Alex Otti’s visit to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Centre on Sunday.

During the visit, Governor Otti informed Kanu that the Sultan had expressed willingness to support a peaceful, administrative resolution of his case. Otti then relayed, in a joking tone, the Sultan’s comment that Kanu was now his “subject” in Sokoto and would soon be turbaned, a remark that reportedly sparked laughter from the IPOB leader.

Otti was accompanied by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu; Abia Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma. Officials of the Sokoto State Government were also in attendance.

According to a statement issued by Ekeoma, the governor encouraged Kanu to remain strong, noting that engagements initiated over two years ago to secure his release had been intensified. Otti also expressed optimism that Kanu’s case would be resolved administratively and that freedom was in sight.

Kanu, described as being in high spirits, thanked Otti for the solidarity visit. He commended the governor’s development strides in Abia and urged him to stay committed to good governance. He also prayed for Otti and members of his delegation.
