Opinions remained divided among Nigerians over the official resignation of former Nigeria’s Vice-president, Atiku Abubakar from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Friday morning.

Atiku, in his resignation letter had cited clampdown on democracy and fractionalization within the APC as the reason why he dumped the party.

Though, he’s yet to officially announce his next party but there are rife indications that following his body language, it’s only a matter of time before he officially jump on his erstwhile PDP’s train again as 2019 beckons.

The New Diplomat recalls, Atiku who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC in February 2014 ahead of the 2015 general elections failed to get APC’s nod as the party’s presidential torch-bearer after the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari beat him to the ticket at the primary election conducted in Lagos.

APC spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi who reacted to the development said, “The former vice president found that his interests would be better served elsewhere and he decided based on that.”

“While it is true that we’ve lost some politicians, we’ve also been having incomers,” Abdullahi said. “But it would help us to look internally and address areas that require attention.”

However, social media have been awashed with barrage of comments since the news broke out early Friday. While some applauded the ace politician for his latest move, others took out time to lampoon him.

Here is what they’ve got to say on Twitter:
