The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared that every outstanding demand from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been fully addressed.
This is as the government asserted that the union’s warning strike is “unnecessary and disruptive.”
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa made this known on Monday while speaking during an interview with Channels TV.
The Minister also appealed to the lecturers to return to the classrooms, adding that there was no need for the union to go on strike.
“We have addressed every single request by ASUU; there is no need for this strike, and we are pleading with them to go back to school.
“We need to keep our children in school. If there is any group of people that I have met with the most since I assumed this position, it is ASUU,” the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa said.
According to him, claims that the government has been slow or unwilling to respond to the union’s demands were incorrect.
Alausa also revealed that a newly constituted Expanded Negotiation Committee, chaired by Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, has fast-tracked resolutions across tertiary institutions.
The New Diplomat reports that this development comes as ASUU began its two-week warning strike on Monday.
