Nigerians have so far contributed more than N20 billion to support First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s campaign to complete the long-abandoned National Library headquarters project.

As of Tuesday, the Oluremi @65 Education Fund had realised N20,456,188,924.93, according to media reports.

The First Lady, who marked her 65th birthday on September 21, had in a video message urged friends and well-wishers to forgo lavish gifts and instead channel donations toward the National Library, describing the project as a cause close to her heart.

A former lawmaker, Mrs Tinubu said she chose to dedicate her milestone birthday “to God and to a national cause” rather than host an elaborate celebration.

The National Library project, initiated decades ago, has suffered multiple delays and funding gaps, leaving the complex uncompleted in Abuja. The First Lady’s initiative is seen as an effort to revive and fast-track its completion.
