Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has been welcomed by a massive crowd as he touched down at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Friday.
The governor, who arrived in the state for the first time after the end of the emergency rule, was greeted by waves of ecstatic supporters waving placards and chanting his name.
The New Diplomat reports that the scene at the VIP wing of the airport was electric, with thousands of residents clad in colorful attire and bearing banners proclaiming, “Fubara is Back!” and “Peace Returns to Rivers.”
Security forces were out in full force to manage the throng, as drums beat and songs of victory filled the air.
This warm reception follows President Bola Tinubu’s announcement just days ago, lifting the emergency rule, reinstating Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Nma Odu, and the state lawmakers.
