President Bola Tinubu has honored Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket, conferring national honours and substantial cash rewards on the players and technical crew.

The announcement was made during a reception at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.

The New Diplomat reports that the D’Tigress clinched their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title, defeating Mali in a thrilling final match.

In recognition of their achievement, Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, bestowed the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all team members.

Each of the players will receive $100,000 in Naira equivalent, while the technical crew will each be awarded $50,000.

Additionally, every member of the team, including the technical staff, will be allocated three-bedroom apartments in Abuja’s Renewed Hope Estate, a gesture aimed at fostering national pride and support for athletes.

The President praised D’Tigress for their resilience and teamwork, noting that their victory symbolizes Nigeria’s unyielding spirit.
