In a stunning display of skill and dominance, Nigeria’s D’Tigress have etched their name in basketball history by securing their fifth consecutive AfroBasket Women title.
The Nigerian women’s national basketball team triumphed over Mali with a 78-64 victory in the final held on, Sunday, August 3, 2025, in Cote d’Ivoire.
This achievement marks the first time any team has won five straight AfroBasket Women championships, solidifying D’Tigress’s status as Africa’s unrivaled queens of the court.
The victory extends Nigeria’s unbeaten streak against African opponents, stretching back over a decade to 2015.
Since their last defeat, D’Tigress have reigned supreme, capturing the AfroBasket Women title in 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, and now 2025.
Leading the charge is Head Coach Rena Wakama, who also made history as the first woman to win back-to-back AfroBasket Women titles.
