Nigeria’s Super Falcons, the undisputed queens of African women’s football, touched down at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Monday afternoon, bringing home their ground-breaking 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.

The team’s triumphant return is coming against the background of its thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in Rabat.

The Super Falcons, led by captain Rasheedat Ajibade, arrived at a euphoric hero’s welcome, with fans, dignitaries, and reporters gathered at the airport’s private wing.

Key figures, including Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, Minister of Culture and Tourism Hannatu Musawa, and Minister for Women Affairs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, who were on hand to celebrate the team’s historic accomplishment.

Following their arrival, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) organized a celebratory open-roof bus parade, allowing residents to catch a glimpse of the coveted WAFCON trophy.

The procession snaked through key routes in Abuja, including Airport Road, Berger Junction, Maitama, and Wuse Market, before culminating at the Presidential Villa, where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu awaited to honor the champions.

The NFF emphasized that this parade was designed to give Nigerians a rare opportunity to celebrate the iconic trophy, described as “the most coveted diadem in African women’s football.”
