A former Kano State Governor and the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has officially been inaugurated as the Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Wednesday.
The ceremony, led by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, marks a transition for Ganduje, who stepped down from his APC role just weeks ago, citing health concerns.
It was gathered that the inauguration was held in Abuja.The development also signals a new chapter for Nigeria’s aviation sector, with Ganduje tasked to lead FAAN’s governing board in driving transparency, operational excellence, and infrastructural advancements.
In his address, Keyamo charged the newly appointed board to uphold the principles of the FAAN Act, emphasizing their role as “architects of Nigeria’s aviation future.”
He underscored the importance of their mandate in transforming Nigeria’s airports into symbols of national pride and global gateways, urging a commitment to governance and accountability.
The New Diplomat reports that Ganduje’s appointment, first announced by President Bola Tinubu in January 2025, comes amid speculations of political realignments within the APC, particularly following his resignation as party chairman.
Political analysts suggest his new role may be part of a broader strategy to maintain his influence in Nigeria’s political and administrative landscape, especially as the 2027 elections loom.
