The Metropolitan Police have formally charged former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, following a three-year investigation into allegations involving three women.

The charges, announced on Friday, stem from incidents that allegedly occurred between 2021 and 2022.

The 32-year-old Ghanaian international, who reportedly became a free agent after his Arsenal contract expired on June 30, 2025, was formally charged by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) after detectives submitted a comprehensive evidence file, purportedly inducting him.

The allegations include two counts of rape involving one woman, three counts involving a second, and a single count of sexual assault concerning a third woman.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, leading the investigation, disclosed that the police’s commitment to supporting the victims is wholesome as the police hopes to use this as a deterrence to other offenders.

Furphy said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge a man after a file of evidence was submitted by detectives. The Met has issued a charge and requisition to Thomas Partey, 32 (13/06/1992), of Hertfordshire, in connection with the following offences: five counts of rape, one count of sexual assault.

“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward. We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case or anyone who has information to speak with our team. You can contact detectives about this investigation by emailing [email protected].”

Partey is expected to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5 when the matter comes up.
