In a shocking incident at a First City Monument Bank (FCMB) branch in Owerri, Imo State, a man was apprehended after allegedly hiding in the bank’s toilet overnight with the intent to hack into its computer systems.
According to reports, the suspect entered the FCMB branch located at the Secretariat in Owerri during business hours, requesting access to the restroom. But rather than exiting after using the rest room, he locked himself inside.
He then reportedly climbed onto the ceiling to evade detection, waiting until the bank staff had left for the night.
Once alone, the individual allegedly descended and attempted to breach the bank’s systems, only to be caught when employees returned the following morning.
A viral video circulating on social media captured the moment the suspect was apprehended by the bank’s security personnel.
The footage also showed how the individual was severely beaten after being caught.
Reacting, the Nigerian Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, criticized the officers’ conduct in the video as “unprofessional,” noting several inappropriate actions.
Adejobi confirmed that the incident is under thorough investigation to address both the attempted hack and the officers’ response.
“Unprofessional conduct. Too bad. Many indecent acts were spotted in the video. We will look into it holistically. Thanks. @PoliceNG_CRU @PoliceNG,” Adejobi posted on X early Wednesday.
