The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has expressed his willingness to serve a single term as president under a coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Obi, a two-term governor of Anambra State said the move is a strategy aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
During a recent XSpace engagement, Obi addressed passionate supporters, emphasizing unity and a commitment to zoning principles.
He stated that, if selected as the coalition’s presidential candidate and elected in 2027, he would serve only one term, ensuring power returns to the North by 2031.
“If the agreement is one term, I will leave on May 28, 2031 — not even May 29. I am not desperate to be president.
“I am desperate to see Nigeria work,” Obi said.
Obi’s remarks come amid ongoing mobilization for the newly created All Democratic Alliance (ADA) party.
The New Diplomat reports that Atiku, El-Rufai, former President of the Senate, David Mark, a two-term Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, a two-term governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola are all bigwigs that are said to be on board with the new party.
