Kenneth Okonkwo, a former Spokesperson to the Labour Party presidential candidate for the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has declared that the only candidate that can give President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) a run for his money in the 2027 general elections is ex-vice-president, Atiku Abubakar.

Okonkwo maintained that it takes one of the seasoned politicians whom he referred to as “old cadre” to give Tinubu a fierce competition, stressing that “political sharks” would swallow younger presidential candidates up.

The Nollywood actor turned politician spoke on Channel TV’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ on Monday.

“If you are expecting a younger person to come in, in the midst of these sharks, they will swallow him up.

“And I’m telling you, Obama can come to Nigeria and will not win the election. Not because people will not vote for him, but they will steal it from him.

“So what we have now in Nigeria is that we have a system that needs to be fought, that needs to be taken out, ” he said.

Asked if he can trust the people in the coalition to cause change, since they are a combination of PDP and APC, two political parties he said Nigerians no longer like.

He said: “Okay, now let’s look at it this way, assuming an Atiku comes into power, assuming and takes us back to the Obasanjo years. He would have been a hero.

“He would have paid up all our debts. He would not acquire new debts. He would have made sure there is no security problem all around Nigeria.

“He was the Vice President. I’m just using him as an example, because he’s the only person that has been in the presidency since 1999.”
