  • Iheanacho: “I was forced to resign”
  • Rivers CP summons CSO, CoS, others over attack

By Abiola Olawale

The dramatic video of a shocking incident is currently rocking Rivers State as Goodluck M. Iheanacho, the Sole Administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area (LGA), was reportedly brutalized and coerced into signing a resignation letter on June 20, 2025.

This development is contained in a viral video circulating on social media on Sunday. The footage showed the administrator being marched on the ground, surrounded by about seven suspected assailants wielding sticks, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.

The attackers demanded he sign a resignation letter, with one voice being heard ordering him, “Sign immediately,” while another shouted, “Confirm the signature.”

Despite complying, the beating, assault and brutalization continued, with Iheanacho pleading, “I have signed now.”

The New Diplomat reports that this development is coming into public light after Iheanacho’s purported resignation letter, dated June 20, 2025, addressed to the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), appeared on social media.

The letter cited Iheanacho’s desire to return to the private sector. However, the authenticity of the document has now come under scrutiny as result of the trending video coupled with the victim’s denial of ever willingly resigning from his position.

Indeed, while reacting to the development, Iheanacho denied reports of his resignation, insisting that he remains in office.

Speaking with the press, Iheanacho said he was the target of a coordinated attack, which resulted in the production of the purported document.

“I did not resign from my appointment as the sole administrator of Ahoada-East. I was attacked in my office, and the letter they brought was not signed by me. I know nothing about the letter,” he declared.

Also, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police (CP), Olugbenga Adepoju, has summoned Hector Ekakita, the Chief Security Officer and Chief of Staff to Iheanacho, following his recent assault by some suspected hoodlums.

In a statement on Sunday by the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, the Rivers CP condemned the assault, describing it as the handiwork of hoodlums allegedly led by officials working under the LG Administrator.

The statement reads in part: “The Rivers State Police Command is aware and deeply disturbed by the heinous attack on the Administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area, Hon. Goodluck Iheanachor.

“On 20th June 2025, at about 13:40hrs, a group of hoodlums numbering about thirty, led by Mr. Hector Ekakita—the Chief Security Officer—and the Chief of Staff to the Administrator, respectively, stormed the council secretariat and attacked him. During the attack, the hoodlums assaulted the Sole Administrator, stole his mobile phones, forced him to sign a letter purporting his resignation, and carted away vital official and personal documents from his office.

“The Administrator is currently undergoing medical treatment due to the injuries sustained during the violent attack. He is in stable condition. The Rivers State Police Command unequivocally condemns this reprehensible act and has taken swift action.”
