The Federal Government of Nigeria says it has finalized emergency evacuation plans for Nigerians stranded in Israel and Iran amid escalating military tensions.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the development on Thursday through a press statement issued by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa.
The ministry in its statement urged all affected Nigerian citizens to adhere to necessary security protocols and to contact the nearest Nigerian foreign mission for registration and further instructions.
The ministry commended the efforts of Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in Tel Aviv and Tehran for their dedication and commitment in reaching out to the Nigerian community during the difficult period.
The statement comes in the wake of ongoing calls by the ministry for a cessation of hostilities in the conflict, now in its seventh day, as part of efforts to promote peace between both nations.
The conflict, now in its sixth day, has seen relentless exchanges of strikes, with Israel targeting Iran’s nuclear sites and Iran retaliating with missile attacks, including one that damaged a hospital in southern Israel.
The volatile situation has prompted global concern, with nations like India, Pakistan, and the United States also evacuating their citizens.
