In response to the horrific massacre that claimed over 200 lives in Benue State, President Bola Tinubu has announced he will rearrange his schedule to visit the grieving communities on Wednesday.

Tinubu made this pledge during the inauguration of the Greater Abuja Water Network on Monday.

“I will adjust my programme and go see Benue people on Wednesday,” Tinubu said.

The President also sympathised with the people of the state and those who lost their loved ones in the attacks.

The New Diplomat reports that the recent bloodshed in Yelwata and Daudu communities, where gunmen unleashed terror between Friday and Saturday, has drawn global condemnation, with Pope Leo XIV offering prayers for the victims of what he called a “terrible massacre.”

Benue State has been under heavy attacks by suspected herdsmen for some time. The killings have lingered for years, with some linking them to inter-communal conflicts as well as the quest for land dominance between the autochthonous agrarian dwellers and nomadic cattle rearers.

However, the killings in the last few weeks have been without a break. Hundreds of residents were killed in a series of attacks by suspected herdsmen who wreaked havoc in different communities in the food-producing state.
