Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the President’s private residence in Bourdillon, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, sparking fresh speculation about the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

The meeting, which took place behind closed doors, comes on the heels of a tumultuous period in the state following Fubara’s suspension from office after Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers on March 18, 2025.

The New Diplomat reports that the crisis in Rivers State stemmed from a fallout between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, who is widely regarded as Fubara’s political godfather.

Tensions escalated earlier this year, prompting Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency im Rivers State, which led to the suspension of Fubara, his deputy, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Tinubu then appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as the Sole Administrator of the State.
