In a moment that has escalated speculations, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appeared to have snubbed Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during the inauguration of Phase 1 of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway on Saturday, May 31, 2025.

The event, marked by the presence of notable figures including Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka and business magnates Aliko Dangote and Abdulsamad Rabiu, was intended to celebrate the milestone in Nigeria’s infrastructure development.

However, during the event, Tinubu, who officiated the ceremony, did not shake hands with Sanwo-Olu, despite the latter’s gesture of extending his hand.

This interaction was captured in a viral video making rounds on social media.

This has led to various interpretations, with some viewing it as a sign of underlying political tensions, while others dismiss it as a mere oversight.

Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State and a key figure in Nigerian politics has always been playing a significant role in shaping the political landscape of Lagos, including endorsing Sanwo-Olu for his current position.

The perceived snub has thus been interpreted by some as a possible indication of shifting alliances or dissatisfaction within the party ranks.
