A moment of confusion by Senator Sani Musa, the lawmaker representing Niger East senatorial district of Niger State, at the Senate, has ignited a wave of criticism and discussion among Nigerians.

The incident, captured in a widely circulated video, occurred when Senator Musa was asked to define the word “harmonize” after using it in his speech during plenary on Wednesday.

Musa, a ranking member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, holds several academic credentials, including degrees from Ahmadu Bello University, the University of London, and the University of Liverpool.

Despite this background, his struggled to articulate the definition of “harmonize” during the session. This has led to questions about the intellectual rigour expected of Nigeria’s legislators.

In the viral video, Musa was seen fumbling for words as he attempted to explain the term garmonize, ultimately failing to provide any acceptable and coherent definition.

The development has ignited debates about the quality of representation in Nigeria’s National Assembly.

Critics argue that such incidents undermine the credibility of the legislative body, especially given the financial resources allocated to its members.

Also, many Nigerians have expressed their frustration over what they perceived as the incompetence of elected officials.
