  • APC Piles Pressure On Fintiri

By Abiola Olawale

Political tension and anxieties are escalating in Adamawa State as Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, a prominent ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, is reportedly weighing options, including a defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Fintiri, who is presently serving his second term, has been instrumental, in some ways, in securing recent victories for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State.

However, there are political indications that the governor is currently weighing various political options, including contemplating a shocking defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of 2027.

These political intrigues and developments, which could potentially alter the political dynamics in Adamawa State, are reportedly coming on the heels of intense pressure by the opposition APC in Adamawa state.

The New Diplomat checks reveal that APC has been actively wooing Fintiri and some opposition governors to join the party ahead of the 2027 General election.

A reported closed-door meeting between Fintiri and some APC topshots was recently held at the Government House in Yola, a move that has further reinforced this permutation.

The meeting was said to have lasted for several hours.Sources disclosed that the discussions reportedly focused on Fintiri’s potential defection to the APC, a move that could bolster President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The Governor is believed to have lost confidence in the PDP’s chances ahead of winning the forthcoming 2027 general elections, including the presidential polls where Atiku, his political mentor and leader is projected to be the likely flag bearer of the PDP.

Recall that several top guns of the PDP had recently defection from the party to the APC. They include Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside his predecessor and PDP’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa, as well as other elected officials from the state, who formally joined the APC.
