The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, has reportedly announced the interception of a truck allegedly loaded with illegally extracted crude oil in Delta State.
According to reports published in local newspapers, the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb alleged cases of bunkering and economic sabotage in the Niger Delta.
The joint team said to be made up of officers of the 181 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Oleh, in Delta State and personnel from Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd. reportedly arrested the truck over alleged involvement in illegal and illicit crude oil extraction at Well 3, Olomoro, in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
This development is said to be coming amidst Tantita Security, led by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (alias Tompolo)’s spirited efforts to help combat crude oil theft since securing a government contract for that purpose in 2022.
Meanwhile, local reports in some publications in Delta state suggest that the truck in question, formerly owned by one Engr. Daniel Omoyibo, also known as Damotech, was gifted to a driver by name Mr. Matthew Ojomikre.
The army which, has since arrested and detained Ojomikre at its Forward Operating Base (FOB), 181 Battalion, located in Oleh, is said to be interrogating the driver on the matter.
Upon interrogation, the driver was reported to have disclosed that his company had been contracted by a firm called Heritage Energy Operational Services Ltd. to evacuate sludge from Well 3, Olomoro.
However, it was alleged that the driver, upon further interrogation, was unable to present any official or proven documentation authorizing such logistical movement.
Reports indicate that a tripartite team of Tantita Security Services, the Army and Heritage may have weighed in with collection of samples from the vacuum truck for laboratory testing and analysis.
Local media reports that a preliminary statement by the truck driver suggests that he may have illicitly collected crude oil from Well 3 under the pretence of evacuating sludge from the wellheads.
