Official data released by the National Examinations Council (NECO) has revealed that in the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results, Abia State emerged as the top performer nationwide.

This data shows Anambra State which used to lead in the past has crashed out of reckoning, triggering comments on social media that when Peter Obi, a trader was governor, the state maintained leading position in NECO consistently. But in contrast, the state has crashed out of reckoning during the tenure of Charles Soludo, a Professor!

The data revealed that an impressive 83.4% of Abia candidates secured five credits or more, including critical subjects such as Mathematics and English Language.

Also, the official data revealed that a total of 1,376,423 candidates registered for the 2024 SSCE, with 1,367,736 sitting for the examinations.

Of these, 828,284 candidates (60.55%) achieved five credits or more, including Mathematics and English.

According to the report, Abia State led the rankings, with 9,054 out of 10,856 candidates meeting this benchmark, achieving an 83.4% pass rate.

This outstanding performance follows Abia’s top ranking in the 2023 NECO SSCE, where 85.53% of candidates also achieved similar feat.

Following closely behind Abia, is Imo State which secured second place with an 80.98% pass rate, as 19,226 out of 23,741 candidates achieved five credits, including Maths and English.

Ebonyi State ranked third with 80.55%, while Cross River and Delta States followed with 76.68% and 76.29%, respectively. Other high-performing states included Ogun (75.73%), Ekiti (75.48%), and Bayelsa.

On the lower end, Katsina State recorded the lowest performance, with only 29,633 out of 70,553 candidates (42%) achieving the benchmark, followed by Kano State at 44.42%.
