Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has firmly debunked speculations about his alleged plans to defect from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is as the Governor reaffirmed his loyalty to LP, emphasizing his dedication to the party’s vision and his ongoing commitment to delivering good governance in Abia State.

This comes after speculations emerged shortly after meeting with Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo governor.

The meeting was held after Thursday’s National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the presidential villa.

However, in a statement on Saturday, Ferdinand Ekeoma, special adviser to Otti on media and publicity, described the reports as “false, baseless and unfounded”.

The governor’s spokesperson said the alleged meeting was misrepresented and had no political undertone.

The statement reads in part: “After the National Economic Council meeting on Thursday, April 24, Governor Otti and a few of his colleagues joined Governor Uzodinma to attend the birthday celebration of his twin daughters, an event that had nothing to do with politics.

“We wish to emphatically state that Governor Otti remains a member of the Labour Party and is presently not planning or discussing with anyone to defect to the APC or any other party.”

The New Diplomat reports that this comes amid a massive exodus from opposition parties to the ruling APC.

It would be recalled that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, the 2023 deputy presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ifeanyi Okowa, among a host of others, dumped the PDP for APC earlier this week.
