In a heartwarming gesture to honour the Easter season, Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has declared Thursday, Friday, and Monday as work-free days across the state.

This extended holiday, spanning April 17, 18, and 21, 2025, is said to be aimed at giving residents ample time to engage in spiritual reflection, celebrate with loved ones, and participate in festive activities marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The announcement was made in a public statement from the Government House in Makurdi, Benue State.

Alia, a Catholic priest-turned-politician emphasized the importance of Easter as a time for renewal, unity, and gratitude.

The statement reads in part: “All government offices, ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) will remain closed on these days.

“We encourage our citizens to use this time to reflect on the essence of the season, reconnect with family, and recharge physically and spiritually.”

The announcement has sparked widespread excitement, with civil servants, traders, and students alike welcoming the rare three-day break.

Local businesses, especially in hospitality and transport, are also gearing up for a surge in activity as families plan reunions and church events.
