The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked Nigerians to disregard the circulating list of ambassadorial nominees stressing that it’s just a product of speculation.
The ministry stated that President Bola Tinubu has yet to make any official appointment of ambassadors.
The clarification comes days after a purported list of ambassadorial nominees containing names of prominent Nigerian became viral.
This is contained in a statement issued by the acting spokesperson of the Ministry, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
Ebienfa described the list as “false” while urging the public to disregard it.
The statement reads: “Kindly disregard the frenzy about the ambassadorial list.
“Be rest assured that, when it is ready, Mr. President will transmit the list of nominees to the National Assembly for screening and confirmation.”
The ministry assured Nigerians that the public would be duly informed through the appropriate channels once a legitimate list is finalised
There has been heightened public interest in Nigeria’s diplomatic representation, particularly following the recall of all ambassadors in September 2023.
