The race for the Anambra State governorship has begun to take shape as Nicholas Ukachukwu emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election, clinching the party’s ticket for the November 8, 2025, gubernatorial poll.

Ukachukwu, a former House of Representatives member, defeated his closest rival, Valentine Ozigbo, in a landslide victory that has set the stage for a heated contest against incumbent Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The primary election saw Ukachukwu amass a total of 1,455 votes, to defeat Ozigbo’s 67 votes. Other contenders, Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo and Edozie Madu, trailed far behind with 26 and 8 votes, respectively.

The results were announced in the early hours of Sunday, April 6, by Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, who chaired the APC Electoral Committee, declaring Ukachukwu the party’s flagbearer.

In his acceptance speech, Ukachukwu exuded confidence, vowing to deliver Anambra to the APC.

He stated: “We shall deliver Anambra to the APC. One thing I want to say here — nobody has won the governorship of Anambra without my support; it has never happened before.

“I have been playing godfatherism, but now I want to be the father of the father — no more godfather.”
