Muslim faithful in Nigeria are in a celebratory mood as the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, declared Sunday, March 30, 2025, as the official day of Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The proclamation came late Saturday evening following the confirmed sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon across Nigeria, signalling the start of a jubilant celebration for millions of Muslims nationwide.

The Sultan, who serves as the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, addressed the nation, stating: “With the sighting of the moon, tomorrow, Sunday, 30th March 2025, becomes the 1st day of Shawwal 1446 AH and the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.”

His words ushered in a wave of excitement and relief after a month of fasting and prayer.

Eid-ul-Fitr, known as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is a time of unity, gratitude, and festivity.

The announcement aligns with similar declarations in countries like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, where the crescent moon was also sighted.
