The Edo State Government is to establish a job centre in each of the 18 local government areas of the state and equip job seekers with new skills required for the jobs being created in the state.

The Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Cooperatives and Employment, Hon. Emmanuel Usoh, said this at Government House in Benin City, on Wednesday.

According to Usoh, the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration is committed to creating the promised 200,000 jobs in the first instance, and more as time progresses.

“We are starting with three job centres, one each in the three senatorial districts and will extend the job centres to every local government area of the state,”   he said.

Usoh added: “The state government is desirous of an inclusive system where all Edo job seekers can access the job centres for information about the processes involved in securing jobs in the state,” the commissioner said.

He explained that “with the Edo jobs portal in the state, job seekers do not need to know anyone or meet anyone for jobs in the state. The data you supplied on the job portal is sufficient to get you a job. Our job is to match the data in the Edo jobs portal with the applications we receive on the portal and call the applicants for interviews.”

On the need to retrain some job seekers, he said: Edo people are very intelligent, proud and educated people and we have been able to articulate the manpower need. All we need now is to train and retrain our youths to be fit for the job descriptions.”

He urged job seekers to upload their applications on the job portal and should not give money to anybody for job placement.
