The House of Representatives has approved President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

This comes after an announcement by Tinubu during a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.

The President, during the broadcast, said the measure is aimed at addressing the escalating political crisis and governance challenges that have gripped the oil-rich state.

Following the development, the House of Representatives debated the President’s declaration.

The House voted in support of the declaration during a plenary session on Thursday.

According to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbass, 240 lawmakers attended the session, meaning there was a quorum.
