The political tension between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reached a new peak.

This is as Wike issued a stern warning to his successor, Fubara during a public address on Saturday.

In a fiery speech, Wike declared, “You’re already down 2-0. More are coming,” signalling an intensification of their ongoing feud that has gripped the state since 2023.

Wike said to a cheering large crowd at a reception organized by the Kalabari people in Rivers on Saturday.

Wike’s comments come against the background of a recent judgement from the Supreme Court judgement, which recognized the Martin Amaewhule-led State House of Assembly.

The Supreme Court had also, in the judgement, ordered the stoppage of federal allocation to the Rivers State Government until Fubara presented the state’s 2025 Appropriation Bill to the Amaewhule House for approval.

It would be recalled that Fubara and Wike have been locked in a titanic battle for control of the political structure of the state as well as its economic fortunes.

The raging feud between the duo has triggered political turmoil in Rivers state, culminating in conflicting and multiple court orders and outright fragmentation of the Rivers House of Assembly into two factions; Pro-Fubara and Pro-Wike.

In December 2023, Fubara and Wike signed an eight-point peace deal purportedly to address the raging feud.

The peace deal was signed at the presidential villa in Abuja after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu. However, since the development, the crisis in Rivers State has continued to heighten beyond redemption unabated with worsening dimensions and consequences.
