The political atmosphere in Rivers State remained soaked in tension on Wednesday as Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State was barred from entering the Rivers State House of Assembly complex.

The situation happened when the Governor arrived at the Assembly complex only to find the gates firmly locked.

It was gathered that Fubara had reportedly intended to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the lawmakers.

The New Diplomat reports that Fubara’s convoy arrived at the Assembly quarters around 10:00 AM, but security personnel stationed at the entrance refused to grant access.

The incident comes on the heels of recent ultimatums issued by the Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, demanding that Fubara present the state’s budget for legislative approval.

The Amaewhule-led faction, reportedly loyal to the immediate past Governor of Rivers State and incumbent Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has been at odds with Fubara since he assumed office.

Fubara, visibly frustrated but composed, addressed a small gathering of supporters outside the complex. “We came here in good faith to fulfil our constitutional duties, but it seems some people are more interested in playing politics than serving the people of Rivers State,” he said.

He vowed to explore all legal avenues to ensure the budget presentation proceeds, hinting at possible alternative arrangements if the deadlock persists.
