The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, has announced that the security detail of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda has been restored.
Jimoh made this disclosure during a press briefing on Thursday.
Speaking further, the Commissioner of Police explained that the security detail was initially withdrawn for audit purposes.
It would be recalled that Meranda’s Special Adviser on Information, Mr Victor Ganzallo, had raised an alarm over the withdrawal of security detail assigned to his principal amidst escalating tension in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The New Diplomat reports that the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly has traditionally been accorded police protection as part of the standard protocol for high-ranking public officials in Nigeria.
This security detail, often comprising trained officers equipped to handle potential threats, is seen as both a privilege and a necessity given the visibility and influence of the office.
