The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Lagos State Chapter has condemned what it claimed is the detention of three workers of the Lagos House of assembly.

The state Chairman of PASAN, Babatunde Ogunlana, made the association’s stance on the development known in a statement issued on Tuesday.

PASAN in the said the “humiliating arrest, detention and trial of the officers as abuse of power and gross violation of the rights of the staffers who were performing their statutory duties.”

The association said it was demanding the release of the detained members, and called on the authorities to institute a thorough investigation into “their arrest, torture, and continued detention with a view to forestall reccurrence.”

He said, “The association further calls on the DSS to uphold the rule of law and ensure the safety of the affected staff.

“The union uses this medium to call for the intervention of our labour-friendly Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to prevail on the relevant authorities for justice in this matter.

“The continued detention of our members raises genuine concerns for the health and safety of the affected staff, one of whom is asthmatic.”

The New Diplomat had reported how three workers of the Lagos State Assembly were allegedly arrested and taken to the the federal high court in Lagos for allegedly assaulting officials of the Department of the State Services on February 17 while on official duty.

The DSS accused the workers of alleged cyberstalking, recording, and circulating false information on social media to undermine law and order in the country.

The DSS also reportedly accused the trio of “willful misdirection of electronic messages to social media to embarrass its officials” on duty at the assembly complex on February 17.

While deciding on the agency’s suit, the federal high court in Lagos ordered the remand of the three workers of the state house of assembly for alleged assault and other offences.

Justice Daniel Osiagor, ordered the remand of Ibrahim Olanrewaju, Adetu Adekunle, and Fatimoh Adetola, on Tuesday, pending their arraignment on Wednesday.
