From all indications, the long-awaited meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to proceed as scheduled.
At the time of filing this report, the national secretariat of the APC was bustling as governors elected on the platform of the APC and party chieftains trooped in for the top-level meeting.
Early arrivals at the meeting include members of the National Working Committee, APC State Chairmen, former governor of Zamfara state, Sen. Abdulaziz Yari, former governor of Kebbi state and Minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Goodwill Akpabio and Speaker, House of Representatives, and Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas were being expected to be in attendance.
As early as 8.30am, there were heavy vehicular movements and excited party supporters blaring music and displaying APC banners around the party headquarters and neighbouring streets.
The venue was also crawling with security agents who were armed to the teeth and stern-looking.
They manned both the entry and exit points of the venue leaving nothing to chance.
The NEC meeting is coming a day after the party held its National Caucus meeting.
President Bola Tinubu, presided over the National Caucus meeting on Tuesday marking the first of such gathering since he assumed office on May 29, 2023.
The high-level meeting took place at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, with key party leaders in attendance.
Proceedings commenced at 7:20 p.m. following the arrival of Tinubu.
