The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru, yesterday said there are no laws and rules which require him to discuss contractual matters with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu and the NNPC Board.

He spoke in reaction to the barrage of allegations levied against him by the minister,including the award of $25billion which he claimed were never discussed with him and the NNPC Board and the alleged insurbodination and illegalities perpetrated by the the NNPC’s boss.

The junior Minister conveyed his grieviance in a memo dated August 30,2017,which was leaked last week and had attracted mixed reactions from Nigerians
Baru,said in a statement on Monday in Abuja,said what is required is the processing and approval of contracts by the NNPC Tenders Board, the President in his executive capacity or as Minister of Petroleum, or the Federal Executive Council (FEC), as the case may be.

He added that there are situations where all that is required is the approval of the NNPC Tenders Board while, in other cases, based on the threshold, the award must be submitted for presidential approval. Likewise, in some instances it is FEC approval that is required.
