The Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated the selection process for appointing a new Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) and permanent secretaries to fill vacancies in Oyo State and the North-West geopolitical zone, respectively.

This process was announced by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, February 10, 2025, through the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Eno Olotu.

The New Diplomat reports that the position of Accountant-General will become vacant upon the retirement of the incumbent, Dr Oluwatoyin Madein, in March 2025.

Also, permanent secretary vacancies arose following the retirement of the permanent secretary from Oyo State and an impending vacancy in the North-West geopolitical zone.

The process is open to serving Grade Level 17 officers in the mainstream Federal Civil Service who have held their current positions for at least two years and have expressed interest in participating.

According to the statement, candidates are expected to undergo screenings, including verification by their respective permanent secretaries and the Accountant-General, to ensure they are not under disciplinary procedures.

According to the statement, the selection process is structured and multi-tiered, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to ensure only competent and credible individuals are appointed.

It would be recalled that the current AGF, Dr Oluwatoyin Madein, was initially set to commence pre-retirement leave in December 2024, and Babatunde Ogunjimi was appointed as acting AGF.

However, her tenure was extended until March 7, 2025, following a directive from the Head of Service, leading to Ogunjimi’s reassignment to the Public Service Institute of Nigeria as Director of Accounts.
