Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, along with a delegation including former Governors of Sokoto and Cross River States, Aminu Tambuwal, Liyel Imoke, and Senator Abdul Ningi, met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in a closed-door meeting on Monday, February 10, 2025.

The meeting, which took place at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, Ogun State has sparked speculations about its political implications, particularly in the context of the 2027 Nigerian presidential election.

While the specific agenda of the meeting has not been officially disclosed, it may not be connected to Atiku’s potential presidential ambitions for 2027, as opposition politicians are strategizing to form alliances against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The New Diplomat reports also that the meeting is part of a broader history of political consultations between Atiku and Obasanjo, who have had a complex relationship since their time as president and vice president (1999–2007).

Despite past tensions, they have met on several occasions in recent years.
