The Board of Trustees Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Aldophous Wabara and one time Senate President, has expressed disappointment over the lingering crisis rocking the party.

The former Senate President maintained that failure to resolve the crisis is underming the credibility of the party which many Nigerians see as an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which according to him is inflicting untold hardship on the country.

He said it’s imperative for party members, particularly those of the National Working Committee, (NWC), to rise above personal considerations and ambitions to find a lasting solution to the crisis.

Wabara spoke on Wednesday at the Board of Trustees meeting that was held at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja.

“This meeting comes at a time when the unity, focus, direction and ideals of our great Party are being tested in ways that call for reflection and decisive action,” he said.

“Primarily, let me express my profound disappointment over the crises currently rocking the leadership of the National Working Committee (NWC).

“As elder statesmen and women; leaders who hold the trust of the generality of our party members and the public, it is disheartening that these issues have not been resolved.

“The failure to resolve these internal conflicts undermines the strength and credibility of our party. It is, therefore, imperative that the NWC rises above personal interests and places the survival and progress of our great party above all other considerations.”

Wabara asked the NWC to ensure that the NEC meeting is held in February, saying “party members across the country are in earnest expectation”.

He said the zonal congresses must be free, fair and transparent so that the outcome will “reflect the collective will of our members”.

Wabara said the PDP “remains the hope of Nigerians”, adding that Nigeria has endured years of “suffering under the poor policies” of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Nigerians are looking to us as a beacon of hope, and we cannot afford to let them down. We must rebuild trust and offer a credible alternative that prioritizes the welfare of the people,” he said.

Wabara spoke after the acting chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum. The BoT subsequently went into an executive session after Wabara and Damagum’s remarks.
