Following her election on Monday, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, the newly inaugurated Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, visited the members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) on Tuesday.

Meranda who was accompanied by some of her colleagues in the Lagos State House of Assembly to the Lagos House in Marina, venue of the meeting, said the essence of the visit was to brief the GAC and seek their blessings.

She immediately went into a closed-door meeting with the GAC members, the highest decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos state.

Addressing the press after the closed-door meeting, Meranda said her visit was to seek the blessings of the GAC members as she embarks on her new role.

Meranda told newsmen she went to “brief them about what happened at the House of Assembly yesterday (Monday) and to seek their blessings, which we have gotten”.

It would be recalled that in a significant political earthquake and development, former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, was impeached on Monday by members of the House of Assembly.

The lawmakers said their decision was reached following various allegations of misconduct and misappropriation of funds leveled against Obasa.

Following the impeachment, the assembly swiftly moved to fill the vacant position, electing Meranda as the new Speaker without delay.
