Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has issued a statement denying any involvement in the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa, as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The Governor’s statement comes amidst allegations and discussions regarding the political dynamics and unhealthy relations between the leadership of both the executive and legislative arms of the government in Lagos state that might have precipitated Obasa’s impeachment.

It would be recalled that Obasa was impeached on Monday after a unanimous process carried out by the majority of members of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

However, following the development reports emerged that Obasa was allegedly impeached because of his rift with Sanwo-Olu.

Reacting to the reports, Sanwo-Olu has vehemently declared that he has no part in the initiation or orchestration of Obasa’s impeachment.

Sanwo-Olu’s Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, made this known in an interview with The PUNCH.

Akosile described Obasa’s impeachment as a strict legislative affair devoid of politics or the state government’s influence or interference.

“It is purely a legislative matter and the Assembly handled it the best way they could. It has nothing to do with the governor,” Akosile stated.
