  • Obasa: “All Those Who ‘ve Been Governor Are Not Better Than me…”

By Abiola Olawale

A video has surfaced on social media, throwing some light on what may have likely precipitated Monday’s impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa from office as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Though the authenticity of the video has not been verified, it was shown in the now-viral video, Obasa claiming that he is not inferior to former and current governors of Lagos State.

Recall that some of those who have been governors of Lagos state under the current democratic dispensation are Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Babatunde Fashola, Akinwunmi Ambode, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The impeached Speaker made this declaration in December on the floor of the house after Sanwo-Olu presented the 2025 Appropriation Bill.

Following Obasa’s impeachment , the video has been making rounds, with many suggesting that Obasa’s comments were part of broader discussions about political manoeuvring and ambitions within Lagos State politics, especially in the context of the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial elections.

This statement has stirred reactions, with some seeing it as an assertion of political ambition or a call for recognition of his capabilities within the political landscape of Lagos.

However, some individuals have opined that Obasa’s comment is a sign of hubris or an attempt to undermine the legacy and achievements of these past and present governors.

His statement was also linked to a reported rift with current Governor Sanwo-Olu.
