A former Kano State Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Abbas Abbas, has dumped the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abbas’ defection came days after Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State sacked him and five other commissioners during a cabinet shakeup.

The governor announced the decision in December 2024.
However, a statement issued on Saturday by Ismail Mudashir, the Special Adviser to the Senate Deputy President, Barau Jibrin, on Media and Publicity, disclosed that Abbas has left the NNPP for the APC.

According to the statement, Abbas’ defection to the APC was announced during a visit to the lawmaker’s house in Kano on Friday night.

The statement stressed that Jibrin received Abbas alongside the APC Chairman in Kano, Abdullahi Abbas and other party leaders, adding that the former commissioner pledged to work towards the success of his new party across Kano State and beyond.

It added, “The Deputy President of the Senate assured Hon Abbas, a dedicated grassroots mobiliser, of the APC’s unwavering commitment to building a better future for the people of Kano State and all Nigerians.

“While stressing that APC is big enough to accommodate all lovers of the country, he said they will continue to promote the values of good governance, inclusivity, and service to humanity.”
