  • Power Outages Rise, over 100,000 Residents Evacuated

By Abiola Olawale

A massive wildfire is sweeping through California, igniting panic among residents as flames rage uncontrollably.

It was gathered that the wildfires in California, particularly in the Los Angeles area, have been significant and fast-moving due to strong Santa Ana winds, dry conditions, and low humidity.

The disaster began on Tuesday afternoon, when a powerful windstorm fanned the flames of a fire in the scenic Pacific Palisades neighborhood, quickly forcing thousands to flee.

According to reports, the growing blazes have killed at least five people, destroyed hundreds of homes, and forced evacuations for over 100,000 residents.

Also, the fires have led to widespread power outages, with over 1.5 million customers affected, mainly in Los Angeles County. Air quality has been compromised, with smoke advisories in effect across the region. The state has seen an influx of firefighting support from various agencies, including the deployment of National Guard and Navy helicopters.

In a swift response, United States President Joe Biden approved a major disaster declaration for California, enabling federal assistance for recovery efforts.

Meanwhile, the exact causes of these fires remain under investigation, but the dry conditions combined with high winds have been significant factors in their spread.
