A teacher named Stella Nwadigo from Christ-Mitots School in Ikorodu, Lagos State has been arrested for physically assaulting a three-year-old pupil, Abayomi Michael, during a lesson.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (LDSVA) and the police have confirmed her arrest.

The arrest came after the incident was captured in a video that went viral, showing Nwadigo repeatedly slapping the child for struggling to grasp a numeracy lesson.

This has sparked widespread outrage among Nigerians, prompting calls for an investigation into the school’s practices and the teacher’s behaviour.

Reacting, the LDSVA and the police have confirmed her arrest, with the case being escalated for further investigation.

Also, Kayode Sutton, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Ministry of Education on Wednesday, revealed that the matter had been escalated to the relevant departments for further investigation, with the disturbing incident having already been “forwarded to the appropriate quarters.”
