President Bola Tinubu has said there is a need for a synergy between the political class and traditional institutions to foster national unity.

Tinubu said this on Sunday while hosting the Awujale of Ijebuland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Adetona, at his Bourdillon Road, Lagos residence in Lagos.

Details about the visit were disclosed in a post on X.com on Sunday. “Now more than ever, the role of our traditional institutions is crucial for fostering national cohesion, governance, and economic development at various levels,” Tinubu stated.

He said he discussed constructive solutions to Nigeria’s challenges with the monarch during their closed-door meeting, emphasising the need to build partnerships and cultivate a strong national identity.

“This identity should embody our values as a nation while fostering progress and prosperity for all citizens,” he said.

“I am very encouraged by this positive engagement with Kabiyesi as our administration continues to work assiduously towards a stronger, prosperous, and more united Nigeria,” Tinubu added.

According to a statement issued by Aafin Awujale and signed by the Onigegewura Akile Ijebu, Aremo Tunde Oladunjoye, Awujale, during the visit, also expressed his appreciation to the President for the conferment of the second highest national honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger on him on May 10, 2024.

Tinubu had conferred the honour on Awujale during the celebration of his 90th birthday anniversary and 64th anniversary on the throne.

“Because Oba Adetona has honoured our country and humanity with his many years of meritorious service, I therefore, on this special occasion of his 90th birthday ceremony, confer on him the second highest National Honour of Grand Commander of the Order of Niger,” Tinubu, who was represented at the Ogun event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, said
