Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has officially signed the state’s budget for the 2025 fiscal year, which amounts to N1.188 trillion.
The Governor signed the budget into law on Thursday during a signing ceremony which was held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Thursday.
The New Diplomat reports that the development comes two days after Fubara presented the budget to the three-member Rivers Assembly loyal to him.
He presented the budget before the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led faction of the assembly on Monday.
During the presentation, the Governor stated that the budget would be referred to as the “Budget of Inclusive Growth and Development”.
He further explained that the budget aims to drive sustainable economic growth, accelerate state development, and enhance the living standards of residents and people of Rivers state.
This is a repeat of what happened last year, where Fubara presented the N800 billion 2024 budget before a four-member assembly and assented to it within 24 hours.
It would be recalled that Fubara and his predecessor, the incumbent Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike have been locked in a titanic battle for control of the political structure of the state as well as its economic fortunes.
The raging feud between the duo has triggered political turmoil in Rivers state, culminating in conflicting and multiple court orders and polarization of the Rivers House of Assembly into two factions; Pro-Fubara and Pro-Wike.
