President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been named THISDAY’s Man of the Year for 2024.
The media outlet said it recognized the number one citizen of Nigeria for what it called “ his resilience and bold reforms.”
THISDAY also explained that this accolade aims to celebrate Tinubu’s transformative leadership since assuming the presidency in 2023.
The New Diplomat reports that the media outlet commended Tinubu’s administration for tackling some of Nigeria’s most pressing challenges with decisive policy actions, including the removal of fuel subsidies and economic reforms.
THISDAY added that the decision to honour Tinubu was based on his ability to navigate through a turbulent period in Nigeria’s history, with an understanding emphasis on his commitment to economic restructuring, energy reform, and infrastructural development.
The company also praised the President’s determination to engage in what it described as prioritization of long-term national interests over short-term popularity despite criticisms and challenges.
The New Diplomat reports Tinubu, upon assuming office, ended subsidies on fuel.,The President had emphasized that the decision to remove fuel subsidies and dismantle various foreign exchange systems was crucial, as these measures had been taken advantage of by a small group of privileged elites in Nigeria to the disadvantage of the populace.
He articulated that this decision was not only about economic reform but was also about promoting fairness and ensuring that resources were allocated more equitably across the society.
