The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced a directive concerning the 762 plots of land that were recently revoked in the Maitama area of Abuja.

The Minister, in the latest directive, said he has granted the owners of the affected land a two-week grace period to settle the outstanding payments for their Certificates of Occupancy (C of O).

The New Diplomat reports that Wike, in a circular announced that he had ordered the revocation of 762 plots of land in Abuja.

These plots are situated in Maitama II, within the Cadastral Zone A10.

However, in a press statement issued by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and New Media, Wike explained that his primary interest was not for people to lose their lands, but to get them to make necessary payments due to the government.

He added that title holders were given two weeks to pay their bills or lose their Right of Occupancy (R of O) titles.

The spokesman said that the 762 allottees and the 614 others with outstanding payment of C of O have till Jan. 3, 2025, to pay, or have their R of O titles withdrawn.

The statement reads in part: “Yesterday, a notice of withdrawal of the R of O titles of the 762 defaulters was published.

“Since then, many of the affected allottees have offered to pay, and since the primary aim of the government is to ensure payment, a two-week grace has been given.

“After Jan. 3, there will be no further extension and withdrawal of the R of O titles of defaulters will be final.”
