Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development (SCDDD) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The New Diplomat reports that the agreement aims to foster cooperation in various fields including Diplomacy, Good Governance, Social Justice, Advocacy Strategy, Security, and Growth Management within the ECOWAS region.
President of ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Omar Alieu Touray signed the MoU with eminent Scholar- diplomat, former Chief of Staff to the immediate past president, Muhammadu Buhari, and a former United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General (political), Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, at an event which was held at the headquarters of the ECOWAS in Abuja, on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
The New Diplomat reports that Gambari, who had also previously served in various capacities including as Nigeria’s minister of Foreign Affairs as well as Nigeria’s Ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations from 1990 to 1999, is the founder and chairman of the SCDDD.
The SCDDD is committed to research, advocacy training, and policy analysis in the areas of conflict prevention, management, democracy, and sustainable development in Nigeria, Africa and the world in general.
